Our theme for the whole month of January will be on Winter and Winter animals. There are so many things that can be done with this unit that I decided to devote the whole month to it. We've had alot of fun painting our first initial of our names using spools. We've also painted using shaving cream mixed with elmer's glue to make a snowy scene. Next week we will complete the snowy scene by adding arctic animals. We have been working on our fine motor skills by using clothespins to hang our matching letter mittens. This is a nice exercise for some of the kids who are still learning how to hold a pencil or crayon (and they have fun doing it). We made a mitten collage by tearing construction paper and gluing them inside the mitten (another great fine motor skill).
The next two weeks will be spent on arctic animals where we will make a penguin book. We are going to do an experiment and find out how a polar bear stays warm in the winter time.
Next week I will be sending home report cards. We will have conferences in February along with the rest of the school. If you have not registered your child for preschool in the fall, please do so as soon as possible.
